Aunt Grace Block of the Month (2)

Working hard on my Block of the Month quilts.  I love the 1930's prints that this quilt is made up of.  The blocks are a little smaller than I thought they would be, but I am getting the hang of it now.  I think that the blocks are turning out really cool.  I am finding that the smaller the block and the pieces the easier it is for the points to line up.

Tip:  When pressing the small stitched fabric pieces to the dark/printed side, lay the piece with the dark/printed side up and give it a little touch of the iron.

Then lift up the dark/printed side, and fold it over.  Then give it another press with the iron.

Now  your seams are nicely pressed to the dark side.

Block of the Month

This is my third Block of the Month.  I have decided this is enough Block of the Months to do at one time.  I am having fun and I have already put two more in my wish list.  I think I will keep three going at all times.

This one is the Cabana.  It will take 12 months to finish.  It actually comes in three different color schemes.  Cabana is mostly blue.  Casino is red, white and blue. And Cottage is red and white.

I started like I always do by cutting the fabric.  They don't give you much extra in the way of fabric.. That said, I cut some squares wrong and didn't have enough to fix my mistake.  I called Keepsake Quilting and they were very nice.  They told me they would send me some more fabric.  I thanked them and waited for my fabric.  When it came, they had sent me the wrong fabric.  I called them again and they were very nice and apologetic.  Becky (the customer service representative) said she would personally check to make sure that I received the correct fabric.  I did.  by the way, there was no charge for the fabric.  Very good customer service.

Got the correct fabric and finished the block.

Starting Halloween Block of the Month

So, I am getting addicted to Block of the Month. I have started my second Block of the Month, and the theme is Holloween.

Halloween is not my favorite holiday, not to say that I don't like Halloween.  I do like Halloween, I just don't get into all the decorations.  Usually I try to find something that I can use for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. Well, this year I found so many cute quilts for Halloween that I had to try one (or two).

Sew Spooky is a Block of the Month Halloween quilt. I bought it from Keepsake Quilting.  When I got my first month, it came with large fabric kit and accessory kit along with the first months directions. So I dug right in.

I followed the cutting directions and had the bare bones block finished in no time.  Then came the embellishments.  I cut out the applique pieces as well as the accessories.  I followed the instructions and the block started to look really cool.  Can't wait for second month.

Aunt Grace first Place Block of the Month

I have really enjoyed the 1930 circa prints.  So I decided to make a throw using these prints. I found this Block of the Month pattern and decided to give it a try. It is called Aunt Grace First Place. I found it on Keepsake Quilting.
My first months kit came and I started to make the squares. It was pretty easy and straight forward, though a little smaller than what I am used to.  Never the less, I finished the four blocks with no trouble at all.
